Frequently asked questions
What is Afterlap?
Afterlap is an iOS companion app that connects to the athlete's own Strava account and automatically creates more useful titles and descriptions for newly created activities.
Is Afterlap a replacement for Strava?
No. Afterlap is designed to complement Strava. It does not provide a social feed, athlete discovery, public leaderboards, or another training-log platform. You keep using Strava as usual; Afterlap focuses on the title and description of your own activity.
What sports does Afterlap support?
Afterlap works across activity types on Strava — running, trail running, cycling (road, gravel, indoor, e-bike), walking, hiking, pool and open-water swimming, rowing, ski touring, strength, yoga, and more. It adapts its wording and metrics to the specific sport rather than treating everything like a run.
What modes are available?
There are six writing styles: Roast (dry, witty commentary), Clean (simple, useful names), Coach (a compact workout-style summary when the data supports it), Hype (high-energy celebration earned by a real detail), Poetic (a short evocative line), and Story (a brief first-person recap of how the session went).
Can I control how sharp Roast is?
Yes. Roast has five tones — Gentle, Playful, Dry, Sarcastic, and Savage — so you decide how sharp the humor gets. Every tone stays grounded in the real facts of the activity.
Can Afterlap write a weekly summary?
Optionally. You can pick a day of the week, and on that day Afterlap writes a recap of your whole training week — weekly totals and a per-day breakdown — into that activity's description. It's off by default.
What language does Afterlap write in?
You choose. Generated titles and descriptions can be written in any of 24 supported languages, or set to Automatic to follow your device language. This is separate from the app's interface language.
Can I choose what gets updated?
Yes. You can choose title only, description only, or both title and description. Afterlap never changes the fields you didn't select.
What is the ✦ afterlap.app footer?
Afterlap no longer adds forced advertising to free processed activities. Afterlap Pro subscribers can choose to add a subtle ✦ afterlap.app line in Settings.
How does Afterlap know when I finish an activity?
Afterlap uses Strava webhook events for new activities. It does not continuously poll your Strava account for changes.
Does Afterlap use AI, and is my data used to train it?
Afterlap analyzes your activity on its backend first, then sends a compact, sanitized workout context — not your athlete identifiers, OAuth credentials, raw Strava streams, raw lap arrays, or precise GPS route coordinates — to a third-party AI provider (currently Google Gemini and/or Anthropic Claude) that writes the requested text. Afterlap does not use Strava data to train AI or machine-learning models, and its AI providers are contractually restricted from training their models on the data Afterlap submits through their API. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Can other Afterlap users see my Strava data?
No. Strava data from your connected account is used only to provide Afterlap to you and is not displayed to other Afterlap users.
How long is Strava activity data kept?
The raw Strava activity and Coach-mode lap data Afterlap fetches to process an activity is handled transiently in Worker memory and is not stored as a durable raw activity, stream, lap, or route record. Afterlap retains only a minimal processing record — the activity identifier, your chosen mode, processing status, and the title or description it generated — to avoid re-writing the same activity and to keep the free-activity allowance fair. You can remove these records with Delete Afterlap Data in the app or a deletion request. See the Privacy Policy for details.
How do I disconnect Strava?
You can disconnect in Afterlap Settings or revoke Afterlap from Strava's My Apps settings.
Can Afterlap disconnect Strava automatically?
Yes. Strava limits how many athletes can connect to an app, so Afterlap may automatically release inactive or non-entitled Strava connections. If the free 20-activity allowance is exhausted and Pro is not started, Afterlap holds the connection for 7 days after the last successfully processed free activity, then disconnects Strava. If Pro expires and there is no remaining entitlement, Afterlap holds the connection for 7 days after expiration, then disconnects Strava. Active Pro connections are released after 90 days without any newer Strava activity.
Automatic disconnect removes the Strava connection and stored Strava authorization credentials. It does not cancel an App Store subscription, reset the free-activity counter, or delete the account's subscription history. When you open Afterlap afterwards, Strava appears disconnected and can be connected again if capacity is available.
How do I access or delete data held by Afterlap?
You can use Delete Afterlap Data in the app. For a data-access request, email afterlap.app@gmail.com. For deletion help, follow the instructions on Data Deletion. We confirm email deletion requests in writing when they are complete.
Is Afterlap affiliated with Strava?
No. Afterlap is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Strava.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The first 20 successfully processed activities are free — all modes and the full workout analysis included. The trial is activity-based and never expires with time. After that, Afterlap Pro is required for continued processing.
After the 20th free activity is processed, Afterlap keeps the Strava connection for 7 days. If Pro is not started during that time, Strava is automatically disconnected to free limited connection capacity.
How much is Afterlap Pro?
Afterlap Pro is available monthly ($1.99/month) or yearly ($14.99/year, about $1.25/month — the best value). Prices shown are for the US storefront; your local price appears in the App Store before you buy. Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and can be managed or cancelled in your Apple Account settings.
Does the free trial reset if I reinstall or reconnect Strava?
No. Free-trial usage is tracked on Afterlap's backend and tied to your account, not to the device. Reinstalling the app, switching devices, clearing local storage, or disconnecting and reconnecting the same Strava account does not reset the counter. If a subscription expires, any unused free activities remain available.
